Brief History of OMZ

According to our records black slaves in and around McGhee's Mill  and Barnett's pond area wanted to come together and talk about and give praise to God. They started meeting at different houses, then two years after slavery had ended the first structure was built and on April 6, 1868 the Old Mt Zion Baptist Church was  founded on two acres of land and under the pastoral leadership of our founder Rev. Dudley Williams.

Rev. Williams served the church for 29 years. Followed by Rev. Sandy Wade, Rev Rufus Baird, Rev George Currie, Rev, Dave Price, Rev Sam Badgett, Rev. Walter Mills, Rev. J.L. Singletary, Rev. Lindsey Baskett, Rev Luther Brooks, and Rev. Marcus Vann. Under all of these men of God the church went through positive changes.

Now 150 years plus the Old Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church continues to grow under the leadership of Rev. Clyde A. Glass. We are still standing on the solid rock that our forefathers had on their minds all those years ago and that was to trust in the Lord and love the Lord our God with all of our hearts!
